You may know that I am a big fan of vision boards. If you don’t know what you want, you’ll never get it. Anyway, I was updating my vision board recently, and I had it out on the kitchen table. My son climbed up to the table and was browsing the pictures.
He pointed to the picture of a woman zip lining through the jungle of Costa Rica and said, “mommy, what are you doing?” I thought about correcting him, but I decided not to. Instead I smiled and said, “that’s mommy zip lining in Costa Rica.” ☺️
When my son looked at those pictures he had no problem seeing me as the woman in them. He didn’t see it as something I’m dreaming of, he saw it as something I’ve done.
I was inspired.
His perspective reminded me of one of the crucial points of a vision board – its not just to gain clarity about what you want, but to see those things as if they’re done, as if they’re true for you. You have to feel the feelings of what it’s like for that to be your reality.
Last week I wrote about allowing others’ success to be proof that what we want is possible. When I look at the photos of other people doing the things I want to do on my vision board, I see them as possible... but, sometimes I allow the gap between where I’m at and where I want to go create a sense of longing as well. As I watched my son look at ‘mommy’s photo album’ I felt something switch.
I allowed myself look at those photos with a sense of pride and excitement. I felt energized about the work I needed to do to get me closer to that reality. I felt my energy align with the version of myself in those photos – the one who has done those things. It was transcending.
The vision board was doing its job.
When we align our energy with the future version of ourselves – the one that is, does, and has the things that we dream of - we show up differently in the world. We carry ourselves differently, we think, act, talk, and live the way that version of ourselves does.
It is from this place, my friend, that the magic happens.
This is how we attract the things we want in our lives.
So, I’m going to go workout to help build the strength I need to do that zip line when the opportunity inevitably arrives. Because that’s me in that photo – that’s something I do.
What about you?
Wishing you a wonderful week.
With love and gratitude,
Robin
