We have lived in our house for over four years. There is a little patch of landscape off to he far side of our house that is kind of attached to the backyard, but it’s also kind of hidden from everything.
You know the saying, ‘out of sight, out of mind’ – this spot in our yard definitely fits that description.
I have had grand plans for turning it into something special, maybe adding french doors that open to it… but that project is many years down the road. So, until then, it’s pretty much been neglected.
There are a couple trees that I don’t care for much, and some pots with nothing but weeds growing in them. Nothing special.
Then, the other morning, something happened…
I walked outside over to this area and somehow saw it with new eyes. It felt like I was discovering a hidden oasis I never knew was there.
After dropping off the kids at school, I stopped a nursery and grabbed a few shade plants.
I came home and potted them in the abandoned pots, setup a lawn chair, and sat under one of the trees.
It was MAGICAL.
Birds chirped from the trees, I could see the neighbors horses through the fence, and the canopy of trees above me created the perfect combination of shade and light.
I started thinking about how I’d lived in this home, on this land for years, and never really explored it.
It got me thinking... what other areas have I left unexplored, written off, or ignored?
We tend to get so used to the things in our lives, we forget to make them new and exciting to us again: our homes, our relationships, and our bodies.
The truth is, there’s likely a secret oasis of some kind waiting for you somewhere too.
Maybe you need to see it with a fresh perspective, or maybe you need to give yourself permission to try something new.
Get curious, get excited, and go explore.
I have no doubt that a magical experience awaits you…
Wishing you a wonderful week.
With love and gratitude,
Robin
