Courage is Contagious

Last week I was driving my kids to school. My youngest son was singing aloud with the song on the radio. It was one of my oldest son’s favorite songs. I looked at them from my mirror and noticed my older son watching his younger brother confidently belt out the words with admiration. Eventually, he started singing along too, something he rarely does. In that moment the thought went through my mind, “courage is contagious.”

We all have people we admire: professionals, friends, family members, and even social media influencers. The thing is, often what we actually admire most about them is their confidence.

Maybe we like their work, their style, or their personality – but it’s their confidence in those things that takes us from liking them to admiring them. We look at them and think, ‘I want to be like that too.’ Even when they’re singing out of tune – we admire the courage and confidence of singing out loud anyway.

Whatever is on the horizon for you – the thing that you’re wanting but holding back taking action on, (asking that person out, applying for a new job, asking your boss a raise, having that crucial conversation that you need to have…) spend time in the company of confident and courageous people.

It takes courage to elevate, to grow, to step into the next version of ourselves. Spend time in the presence of people who have these qualities, and like my older son did, watch them,  and let their confidence give you the courage to sing along too.

Wishing you a wonderful week. With love and gratitude,  Robin
