Can you see the light?

At my coaching calls this week, what do you think we talked about? :)  There is one thing on people’s minds right now, but it’s awakening something unique in each of us. As we worked through the fears and frustrations, I made sure to end with focusing on the light at the end of the tunnel – what the future might look like after this is all over.

We created visions for what our own personal futures might look like, and what the future might look like for us as collective. It’s a beautiful and inspiring thing to think about. After a coaching call the other day, I walked into my bedroom. It was dark, the shutters were closed, and the energy in there felt so stale and heavy. I noticed my son was in there playing with his toys. “What are you doing in here baby? It’s so dark in here. “ Without looking up he replied, “yeah…” He seemed unfazed by the darkness but his tone reflected the heaviness of the room’s energy. Then a thought rose up from within me… Let the light in. I walked over to the window and opened the shutters wide, letting the mid-morning light flood the room. He looked over at the window, smiling he said, “its so warm!” During this unprecedented time I think it’s easy for us all to operate in the darkness. Personally, I have slipped into moments of panic and paranoia and struggled finding my way out. What I’m learning is that this experience is a great test of our minds. In the midst of all the darkness of fear and frustration, can you see the light? When we choose to let the light in, we feel different in every way. We feel its warmth wrap us up in comfort and hope, we feel lighter, we breathe deeper, and we can focus on things in the distance. This week I invite you to join me in focusing on the light at the end of the tunnel – what might life after all of this look like? Personally, I imagine a time when we gather with friends and loved ones, we hug without thinking about it, all of us laughing and embracing in safety and relief. I imagine going out to a restaurant and looking around at the other patrons, each of us recognizing and appreciating the liberation and healing that we’re experiencing together – even as strangers, we’ve all overcome something together. I am excited for a richer sense of community with every human I encounter, rejoicing with each and every connection. What a glorious day this will be. One thing I suggest doing this week is make a vision board for this ‘end of the tunnel vision’ that we’re creating. Mine is going to include a trip to Disneyland, hosting large group dinners, taking my kids to the zoo, and teaching groups again. This will be my beacon in moments of darkness. I think its okay, and perfectly normal, to get lost in the darkness of this moment every now and then. I simply encourage you to remember to let the light in, and remember that this is just a moment in time, and we’re getting closer to that light at the end of the tunnel every day.

May God bless you and yours.  With love and gratitude,  Robin
