Your Life is a Canvas

You may or may not know this about me, but we have a little lavender farm.

I say “little” because we have 140 plants. For a “farm” that’s not very many; however, over the past few months we have been preparing for a shipment of many more plants.

If you follow our ranch on Instagram, you may have watched the progress of us staking out the new plot, putting in the new rows, laying the landscape fabric, and putting in the irrigation.

We have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of, what I thought was, 700 baby lavender plants. 🤗

Yesterday, they arrived. It turns out, my husband had the opportunity to add a few more plants so he did, and yesterday we welcomed 820 baby lavender plants. 😳

That evening we walked through the lavender field – the established plants and the prepped plot for the new plants. We were talking about the extra 120 plants and he said, “the infrastructure is there, shouldn’t we make the most of it?”

The thought fascinated me.

I started thinking about our lives as the infrastructure – if we have working bodies and minds – we have everything we need to create the life we want to live. Shouldn’t we make the most of it?

I often relate to our lives as blank canvases. Whenever you want to make a change, or add something new to your life, see yourself as a blank canvas and know that you have the choice of what you paint.

When I bring this up with clients I often hear things like, “I’m too old,” or “my past is such a mess,” as reasons why they don’t think they can or deserve to see themselves as blank canvases.

There are always reasons why people struggle with opening their minds and hearts to new ways of thinking and being that will open up their lives to all new opportunities and realities.

But the truth is, if you’re alive – you still have the opportunity to see yourself as a blank canvas - and you get to paint whatever you want to.

Yes, life happens.

Sometimes it’s pouring rain the whole time you’re trying to paint – but you still have the choice of painting whatever you want to paint.

Sometimes while you’re painting life walks in and kicks the crap out of you – you still have the choice to pick yourself up, sit back down, and paint whatever you want to.

We can’t control the circumstances around us – but we can control how we see ourselves in the midst of them.

We always have the choice to see ourselves and our lives as our own creations.

Even in the midst of chaos, even over 50, even after all the crap in your past, even though you may have no idea what you want to create...

The infrastructure is always there.

So the question is, are you going to make the most of it? 😉

Wishing you a wonderful week!

With love and gratitude,

Robin
