Who The Hell Do You Think You Are?!

Last weekend my husband and I were watching a cooking show about gourmet BBQ – yes, we were likely eating comfort food while watching a show about comfort food. Welcome to a day in the life of my pregnancy... The restaurant being featured had a massive following – people waiting in line for hours, in all sorts of weather, to get the BBQ from this specific place. When asked about what made their meat so special, the owner said, “we don’t have any secrets here. No special rubs or sauces. The secret, is in the pit master.” The 85-year-old woman who oversees the BBQ pit of this establishment has been doing so for decades. There was no special recipe for someone else to follow to create what she created – SHE was the key ingredient. Her passion, her expertise, her love for her craft is what made her food irresistible. I found this fascinating. In a world of innovation and competition, we’re all trying to find a way to stand out. The truth is, we really don’t have to try that hard. No matter what arena you’re in, there is one thing that you have that NO ONE ELSE on this planet has – you. Your uniqueness, your individuality, who you are at your core sets you apart from everyone. The key is knowing and accepting who and what that is. In a world of social media where we’re constantly seeing what other people are doing, thinking, looking like, and so on - it’s easy to drown out our own authenticity. Most of us have very little idea of who we really are. I remember when I was starting out on my own journey to self-love, one of my teachers asked me, “who are you without your work.” I took a pause longer than was comfortable for both of us. I said, “I don’t know.” She quickly replied – “I know, you have no idea.” That was an intense awakening for me. So many of us are on a journey to self-love, but who is this person we’re trying so desperately to fall in love with? This week I encourage you to spend some time getting to know yourself, more than you think you do. What do you like, what do you dislike? What makes you feel good no matter what’s going on? What parts of your personality have stayed the same over the years? Getting to know the heart and soul, the mind and body, the wonderful, unique being that is YOU is one of the most empowering things you can do. Getting to know that person, accepting that person, loving that person is absolutely crucial to true happiness. It's through knowing and loving ourselves that we develop confidence, resilience, and the courage to be and do what we truly love. May you delight in the light that is you, and enjoy the journey of discovering it.

With love and gratitude,

Robin
